“Be careful with this,” she said as she dipped the nib pen too far into the ink. “If you aren’t...,” she pulled the pen out and extended her arm over the blank paper, just as a fat drop of ink leapt off the end of the nib and fell onto the blank expanse. Noiselessly, it broke the silence of the white paper with its decisive, immediate, permanent stain. “...you could ruin someone’s life.”

Initially I added color to divert attention from the more uncomfortable elements of the image, but the red is too on the nose, and the blue might be too far off the nose, as it were. I like both either way, but that’s probably because this level of “gore” doesn’t bother me. I do try to be sensitive to that where others are concerned, however.

Please excuse my short story. It’s a dramatization of what caused this image to go in the direction it did.
